Crispy Sugar Tortillas

These make an easy dessert; add some cajeta or dulce de leche, and the Crispy Sugar Tortillas just became heavenly!

  • Hot griddle
  • Pan


  • 2 Cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 Cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/3 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/3 Cup butter-flavored shortening or margarine
  • 1/2 Cup hot water


  • Mix all dry ingredients
  • Add shortening or butter and cut into mixture until crumbly
  • Make a well in the center and add water
  • Mix until a soft-ball forms
  • Knead well
  • Divide dough into 30 small balls
  • Let stand 15 minutes
  • Roll each ball into a flat circle and cook on hot griddle, turning once or twice.
